MeteOcean at EVAN 2026

Our PhD student Iremnaz Kosem presented a poster at the 7th International Conference on Advances in Extreme Value Analysis and Application to Natural Hazard (EVAN), held in Delft, the Netherlands, from 21 to 23 July 2026.

The poster, "A Data-Driven Framework for Directional Extreme Wave Analysis Using Density-Based Clustering," was co-authored with Prof. Giovanni Besio and Dr. Francesco De Leo (DICCA, University of Genoa), and it presents a new methodology for directional extreme value analysis (EVA) of ocean waves — a key input for the design of coastal and offshore structures.

The work was developed and tested using long-term wave hindcast data from multiple locations across the Mediterranean Sea, and forms part of the group's broader research on coastal and marine hazard assessment.
